You guys know THE MAN right? THE MAN. The one who gets you down. Well THE MAN gets me down too. I also happen to know where THE MAN lives. He lives on a compound in Northern Virginia. About 25 minutes from our nation's capitol. I know this because I have been there. THE MAN sucks in human beings and turns them into drones. THE MAN sucks out your soul and leaves you black and vacant on the inside.
I know all these things because I took a contract position with THE MAN and he pays a pretty good hourly rate for my soul. Now, so far, I have been able to retain said soul by working from home. Yes, I am still telecommuting (hallelujah) and it looks like most of December will be the same. I had a close call yesterday. I went to see THE MAN, and parked in his 2000 car garage. But when I waded through the land of cubes and got to to my designated 'box of boredom' there was coffee percolating there and the desktop was full of creamer and sugar and such. There was no phone, no PC cables - nada. So I said 'later' to THE MAN and came back home. Immediately jumped out of my slacks and into sweats and thanked the bureaucracy of THE MAN for keeping me from THE MAN's house a little longer.
Phew.

it all stands for something
So I bent to the economic pressures of having Smallers and such and got a job. Granted its part time, and its a contract position, but its in an office, and there are acronyms. My oh my are there acronyms. How offices love their precious acronyms. They put initials to things that don't even need shortening, but hell, it makes it all sound so much more official. I am still learning what they all mean, but once I do I will begin my mental game of making up alternative meanings to the acronyms. I got so good at this in my last office job, I would actually crack myself up and have to stifle laughter whilst sitting through an intolerably long meeting. I am a bit rusty. It has been about 4 years since I have worked an office job, but I will overcome. I also need to polish my salutatory head nod. This greeting is par for the course in the professional world for anyone who you do not really know, but they work in your office. Gotta give the nod, but don't overdo it or you come off looking like a freak.
Don't cry for me. I will be OK. I have new slacks so you see, there are pluses.
